Balkan Wars book - updated edition

Our Balkan Wars scenario book, Bloody Big Balkan Battles!, is now available in an updated edition in pdf (from SkirmishCampaigns) and print (from On Military Matters in the US or Caliver Books in the UK).

BBBB lets you refight those great battles of 1912-1913, the prelude to WWI, that saw the end of the Ottoman Empire in Europe and the formation of the basic modern borders in the Balkans. This expanded edition now includes 18 scenarios:

The First Balkan War, 1912-1913

Sarantaporo (Ottomans vs Greeks)

Kirkilisse        (Ottomans vs Bulgarians)

Kumanovo     (Ottomans vs Serbs)

Lule Burgas   (Ottomans vs Bulgarians)

Yiannitsa       (Ottomans vs Greeks)

Prilep              (Ottomans vs Serbs)

Monastir         (Ottomans vs Serbs)

Chataldja       (Ottomans vs Bulgarians)

Bizani             (Ottomans vs Greeks)

The Second Balkan War, 1913

Bregalnitza    (Bulgarians vs Serbs)

Kilkis-Lahana (Bulgarians vs Greeks)

Doiran            (Bulgarians vs Greeks)

Kalimantsi     (Bulgarians vs Serbs)

Kresna Gorge (Bulgarians vs Greeks)

Additional scenarios

                        Aleksinac       (Ottomans vs Serbs, 1876)

                        Velestino       (Ottomans vs Greeks, 1897)

                        Gribovo          (Ottomans vs Greeks, 1897)

                        Driskos           (Ottomans vs Greeks, 1912)

To help players to portray the complex terrain of the Balkans on their tabletops, we also plan shortly to make available files for printing custom battlemats for each scenario. Follow this blog or join the BBB io group to keep informed about this.

  3. Congratulations on the updated edition, and the breadth is impressive, with 18 scenarios spanning both Balkan Wars of 1912-1913 plus the earlier actions at Aleksinac, Velestino and Gribovo. Framing these battles as the prelude to the First World War, and as the end of Ottoman rule in Europe, makes the book feel historically substantial rather than just a scenario list. I am also glad a short terrain guide is planned, since portraying the complex Balkan ground on the tabletop is half the challenge.

  4. Since the new battles do not include Bulgarian forces, I don’t really feel there is a reason for me to buy the book again.

    1. No, the new scenarios are the only significant update, so you're right. But thank you for buying it the first time!
