I should take this opportunity to mention again my two previous works on the '48: Hungary 1848: The Winter Campaign and Hungary 1849: The Summer Campaign (available together as a bundle). These complement Professor Hermann's superb comprehensive work by offering more detail on particular military actions.
For anyone who is inspired by these books to build armies and wargame the battles, then of course I should also mention Nigel Smith's The Honvéd War for all the uniform information you need (and much else besides); and, finally, my own Bloody Big Hungary '48 Battles! scenario book for recreating all the major battles of the war on the wargames table.
Let me finish by reiterating that the '48 was a major conflict and a fascinating war. For too long, it has been ignored and neglected because of the paucity of sources available to non-Hungarian readers. The substantial set of publications we have now made available has solved that problem.
